The Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) is one of the pioneers in the development of Biomechanics in Latin America. Prof. Antônio Carlos Stringhini Guimarães was the first Professor of the School of Physical Education of UFRGS to work in the field of Sports Biomechanics. He was the mentor of the idea of bringing the ISB Congress to Brazil in 2005. Prof. Guimarães and I met twice in 2005 to discuss the idea of organizing this congress. Unfortunately, two weeks after our second meeting he died, and I was not sure if I would be able to take this responsibility upon my shoulders.
However, promises should not be broken, and I promised him that I would do everything I could to make his dream come true. Seven years have passed, and it is with great pleasure that we would like to invite you to come to Brazil in August 2013 to see his dream come true. Prof. Guimarães inspired many Brazilians, and his legacy was his hard work towards the development of Biomechanics in Latin America. But Prof. Guimarães also lived every second of his life to its full with a big smile on his face.
In these last seven years we have worked hard not only to bring ISB to Brazil, but to have a unique experience during ISB2013. We hope you enjoy every second of this journey to Natal, and we will make everything possible to make that true. Together with Cem Cerimonia and Shopping Tour (two Brazilian companies that helped us to bring ISB to Brazil), the Brazilian Society of Biomechanics would like to invite you to bring your family to Natal and to Brazil to experience all the different cultural manifestations throughout Brazil, from the Northeast to the West and from the North to the South.
